How it works

How the Next Best Action Engine Works

The Next Best Action Engine looks at your household's hazards, lifelines, and capabilities, finds the single gap that matters most right now, and gives you one concrete action to close it. Finish it, and the engine reassesses and picks the next one — so you always know exactly what to do next.

Why one action, not a list

A fifty-item checklist produces one outcome for most households: nothing. Overwhelm is the main reason preparedness stalls, so the engine removes the decision. It does the prioritizing — across hazards, lifelines, and capabilities — and hands you the single step with the most impact right now.

The loop

The engine follows the PrepCompass methodology: hazards first, then lifelines, then capabilities, then the next best action, then readiness — and back around through "reassess and improve." Every completed action changes the picture, so the next action is always chosen from your current state, not from a fixed script. For example, if your water supply is the weakest lifeline, the next action will be about water; once that is covered, the engine moves to the next gap.

What it does not do

It does not ask you to do everything at once, and it does not pretend a plan is finished. Readiness is a moving target: supplies expire, households change, seasons turn. The engine's job is to keep pointing at the current most important step, for as long as you use it.
